Oldham Athletic player Kane Drummond avoids jail for breaching sentence

Oldham Athletic striker Kane Drummond fined £50 for breaching suspended sentence instead of serving 20-month jail term.

Oldham Athletic striker Kane Drummond has avoided jail after failing to complete the unpaid work and rehabilitation requirements of his suspended sentence. The 20-year-old appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on April 15, where Judge Sarah O'Brien decided against activating his 20-month prison term and instead imposed a £50 fine.

Drummond had previously pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm for an incident on Berry Street in Liverpool on December 12, 2022. His original sentence in May 2025 included 20 months' imprisonment suspended for 18 months, 200 hours of unpaid work, and up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity.

The court heard that Drummond had not fully complied with these requirements, which could have resulted in him serving the prison sentence. Instead, the judge fined him £50, which must be paid within 28 days.

Oldham Athletic's management has maintained support for Drummond throughout the process. Chief executive Darren Royle told The Oldham Times in March that the club remains committed to helping the player complete his obligations, while manager Micky Mellon emphasized that the club would not interfere with legal requirements.
