Man in 80s seriously injured in Oldham assault, suspect arrested

An elderly man in his 80s is fighting for his life in hospital after a serious assault at a property on Stoneleigh Road in Oldham. Police were called to the scene at around 5:10pm on Sunday, March 1, where they found the victim with multiple injuries.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the property on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning. Superintendent Cara Charlesworth confirmed that the victim and suspect are known to each other, and there is no wider threat to the community.

The incident has left local residents shaken, with the police increasing their presence in the area while investigations continue. Officers are working around the clock to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
