New online platform launched to bring schools, colleges, and businesses together

New online platform connects Oldham schools with local businesses to create career opportunities for young people.

Oldham Council has launched a new online platform called BREE to connect schools, colleges, and local businesses. The tool, which stands for Brokering Relationships Employers and Educators, aims to make it easier for young people to find work experience and career opportunities in the borough.

Councillor Mohon Ali, cabinet member for education and skills, and Councillor Fida Hussain, cabinet member for enterprise, said the platform will create meaningful opportunities for students while making it simpler for businesses to share their expertise. They added that several major employers including Caseys Construction, Willmott Dixon, and Northern Care Alliance have already signed up.

The council says BREE is based on a successful model used by Manchester City Council, which has an 80 per cent success rate in creating partnerships between employers and education providers. The platform has been developed through consultation with both educators and businesses to ensure it meets local needs.

Caseys Construction has already partnered with North Chadderton School to deliver careers education sessions focused on the construction sector. The council's Get Oldham Working team is encouraging more employers to register, whether they can offer careers talks, mentoring, workplace visits, or curriculum support.

The council believes the platform will strengthen partnerships, support social value, and help develop the talent needed for Oldham's future economy.
