New 19-acre park opens in Chadderton, Oldham

Chadderton gets a new 19-acre park with playground and walking paths as part of major housing development.

A new 19-acre park has opened in Chadderton, giving local families a fresh green space to enjoy right on their doorstep. The linear park on Foxdenton Lane is part of the Broadway Green development, which has been taking shape since construction began in February 2024.

The park features a playground designed to blend with the natural surroundings, along with footpaths, picnic benches, and an enclosed play area. Work crews planted trees, shrubs, and wildflower meadows to create a welcoming environment for residents.

Councillor Elaine Taylor, Oldham Council's Deputy Leader, said the park represents a major addition to the borough's green spaces. 'It will be a beautiful place where families can relax, children can play, and local people can enjoy the outdoors right on their doorstep for generations to come,' she said.

The development includes 500 new homes, with 180 designated as affordable housing, plus 600,000 square feet of commercial space. A new Aldi store opened on Lydia Becker Way in 2024 as part of the same project.

Local residents have already taken to social media to share their thoughts. Paula Esbach praised Oldham's parks in general, while Kerry Keenan noted her childminding children love the walk to the park but suggested adding a bin. Neil Woods highlighted the good walking circuit it creates with Foxdenton Park.
