Man arrested for murder in Oldham flat death

Police have arrested a suspect after a man was found dead in a Royton flat, with increased patrols in the area while investigations continue.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 48-year-old was found dead in a flat in Royton, Oldham, on Sunday morning. Police were called to Salmon Fields and Higginshaw Lane shortly before 10:30am following reports of a 'concern for welfare' at the property.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 49-year-old man was taken into custody for questioning. Forensic teams and detectives were photographed at the location, with an officer standing guard outside the block of flats.

Greater Manchester Police say they are keeping 'all lines of enquiry open' as investigations continue. Detective Inspector Rachel Smith from GMP's Major Incident Team described the incident as 'isolated' and reassured residents there is no wider threat to public safety.
