Missing person rescued near Dovestone suffering hypothermia Oldham

Two people were rescued from Dovestone moors after one suffered hypothermia, with search dog Ace playing a crucial role in locating the casualty.

A dramatic rescue unfolded near Dovestone Reservoir on Saturday night when two people went missing on the moors, with one suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion before being airlifted to safety.

The Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 9:15pm on February 28 to search for the missing pair in the rugged moorland near Greenfield. With no way to contact the missing people and limited information about their whereabouts, the team launched a coordinated search operation.

Search dog Ace and his handler were the first to locate the second missing person at around 10:20pm, approximately two miles east of Greenfield reservoir. The team's rescue medical technician found the casualty suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion, providing immediate care including shelter, insulation, a warm drink, and food.

Due to the difficult terrain, the HM Coastguard helicopter was called in to assist with the evacuation, transferring the casualty to a road ambulance for further assessment. The entire operation took four and a half hours and involved 16 team members, with the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team and Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England on standby throughout the rescue.
