Metrolink Oldham line disruption Easter 2026
Oldham tram users are facing major disruption over the Easter weekend as Transport for Greater Manchester carries out essential improvement works on the Metrolink network. The works, scheduled from Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6, will affect all services running from Oldham town centre, with trams terminating at Exchange Square instead of continuing into Manchester city centre.
The disruption is caused by upgrade work at Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar, two key junctions in the network. Anyone travelling beyond Exchange Square will need to use replacement bus services, while some south Manchester lines will be completely suspended or terminate early at Firswood. TfGM says the works are necessary to improve reliability and capacity on the network.
For Oldham residents, this means planning ahead for longer journeys over the bank holiday weekend. The replacement bus services will add significant time to commutes, particularly for those travelling to destinations beyond the city centre. TfGM has advised passengers to check their journey plans in advance and allow extra travel time.
Normal Metrolink services are scheduled to resume from the start of service on Tuesday, April 7. The timing of the works over a bank holiday weekend is intended to minimise disruption, as passenger numbers are typically lower than on regular weekdays.
