Mani's brother says Failsworth pub is 'perfect place' for mural of late rocker
A striking mural of Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield is taking shape on the wall of La Fardy pub on Oldham Road in Failsworth, with the legendary musician's brother calling it the 'perfect place' for the tribute.
Artist Chris, known as Pic.One.Art, began painting the mural on Monday and says the community response has been 'really positive' as passers-by watch the artwork develop on the busy road leading to the M60.
Greg Mounfield, Mani's brother, explained the project came about after John Macauly from Grit Studios approached him following Mani's death, with the Failsworth lad immediately recognising the pub wall as ideal for the memorial.
The mural has already caught the eye of many locals, with Greg recalling his initial confusion when he saw Chris's first graffiti marks, but now watching in amazement as the portrait emerges.
Alongside the artwork, a crowdfunder has been launched to raise £25,000 for Maggie's charity, with £12,000 already donated, and Greg plans to host a celebration event at La Fardy with live music once the mural is complete.
