Campaign for Mani Stone Roses mural in Failsworth
A campaign has been launched to create a permanent tribute to The Stone Roses' bassist Mani in his hometown of Failsworth, where he grew up before becoming one of Manchester's most beloved musicians.
The crowdfunding appeal, organised by GRIT Studios, aims to raise £10,000 for a mural celebrating Mani's life and music. The project has already secured over £7,000 from nearly 200 donors in just a few weeks.
The artwork will be created by Pic.One.Art, the same artist behind the famous Gallagher brothers mural in Burnage. All profits from the campaign will go to Maggie's Manchester, a cancer support charity that was close to Mani and his wife Imelda's hearts during her treatment.
Mani, whose real name was Gary Mounfield, died in November 2025 at age 63 from respiratory issues. His funeral at Manchester Cathedral in December drew music royalty including Liam Gallagher, Bez, and Guy Garvey, reflecting his status as a true Manchester legend.
The mural will stand as a lasting tribute to a local boy who helped define the Madchester era and went on to play with Primal Scream before reuniting with The Stone Roses in 2011. For Failsworth residents, it's a chance to honour one of their own who took Manchester's music to the world.
