Man found dead in car on Broadbent Road, Oldham inquest hears

A man was found dead in his car on Broadbent Road with drug paraphernalia, though police say no suspicious circumstances.

A 43-year-old man was found dead in his car on Broadbent Road in Watersheddings earlier this month, an inquest has heard. Luke Thompson, from Oldham, was discovered by a passerby shortly after 7am on March 6, having parked on the street the previous night at around 10.30pm.

Police found 'drug paraphernalia' in the vehicle alongside Thompson's body, though they confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The road was closed for several hours while investigations took place, causing disruption to local residents.

Thompson, who was unemployed due to ill health, had been living on Cherry Grove in Royton at the time of his death. He was identified using a Greater Manchester Police database photograph and was wearing a GMP identification bracelet when found.

The inquest, held at Rochdale Coroner's Court, heard that a post-mortem examination had been carried out but the medical cause of death remains under investigation pending further reports. Assistant coroner Joanne Logan adjourned proceedings until those results are available.
