Man, 36, pleads not guilty to murder of 82-year-old
A 36-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murdering an 82-year-old pensioner in Springhead earlier this year. Dwaine Turner appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday where he denied killing Kenneth Turner, a retired builder and widower, at a property on Stoneleigh Road.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 5pm on March 1 after reports of a serious incident. Mr Turner was found with major injuries and taken to Salford Royal Hospital, where he died the following day from 'multiple fatal injuries,' an inquest opening heard last month.
Turner, who lives on the same road where the incident occurred, was arrested and charged with murder following the investigation. He remains in custody ahead of his trial, which has been scheduled to begin on August 17 at Minshull Street Crown Court.
The case has shocked the local community in Springhead, where both men lived on Stoneleigh Road. As the trial date approaches, residents are awaiting further details about what led to the death of the elderly widower in what police initially treated as a murder investigation.
