Oldham volunteer Hafsa Batan named First Choice Homes Hidden Hero

Local volunteer Hafsa Batan recognised for supporting Oldham children during school holidays through food and activity programmes.

Hafsa Batan, a volunteer from Oldham, has been named First Choice Homes' February Hidden Hero for her work supporting young people through the Holiday Activities and Food programme.

Mrs Batan, who has volunteered with the Yuvanis Foundation for two years, was recognised for her dedication to helping children during school holidays. She recently supported a residential trip to Castleshaw for young girls.

The HAF programme, delivered by the Yuvanis Foundation in Chadderton, provides free food and activities for children receiving benefits-related free school meals during the holidays.

Mrs Batan received her award from FCHO project and partnerships officer Ghazalla Iqbal, along with a £50 shopping voucher. She was nominated by Yuvanis Foundation chief executive Zakir Ahmad, who praised her 'outstanding contribution' as a trusted role model.

Mrs Batan said she was 'surreal' to be recognised for something that feels like 'an integral part of who I am'. She hopes to continue volunteering 'for as long as I can' because 'volunteering gives me more than I could ever hope to give'.
