Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service launches podcast Beyond the Call
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has launched its first official podcast 'Beyond the Call' to give residents an inside look at the work of firefighters across the region. The podcast aims to share real stories from service personnel and lift the lid on what life is really like inside GMFRS.
The launch comes alongside several other initiatives from the service, including welcoming their first cohort of T Level students for industry placements. These young people will gain hands-on experience working alongside firefighters, learning about fire safety, emergency response, and community work.
Three GMFRS firefighters recently returned from Mozambique where they assisted with flooding relief efforts as part of the UK International Search and Rescue team. The team helped communities affected by severe flooding, demonstrating the global reach of Greater Manchester's emergency services.
Back home, GMFRS has launched its Winter Fire Safe Campaign to prevent accidental fires during the colder months when people use more heating and electrical devices. The service also released new motorcycle safety animations to help riders stay safer on roads, particularly relevant as winter weather makes riding more hazardous.
Residents can access Home Fire Safety Assessments to check their properties for fire risks, with the service offering these free checks to eligible households. The assessments form part of GMFRS's broader commitment to preventing fires before they start, rather than just responding to emergencies.
