Free household goods for struggling families in Oldham
Struggling families moving into new homes across Oldham will receive free household essentials thanks to a partnership between First Choice Homes Oldham and Ultimate Products. The scheme provides cutlery, pans, crockery, clothes airers, brushes and dry mops to customers who might otherwise struggle to afford basic items when setting up a new home.
The first delivery, collected from Ultimate Products' warehouse in Chadderton, included over £1,000 worth of ex-showroom and surplus stock from well-known brands including Salter and Beldray. Ben Thomas, head of community services at FCHO, said the scheme helps customers with essential items they need but might not be able to afford when moving in.
Ultimate Products' chief operating officer Craig Holden said the company is committed to supporting the local community and hopes this is the beginning of more collaborative work. The same day, Oldham Council and Mahdlo Youth Zone also received supplies from the Chadderton warehouse.
FCHO staff are now packaging up the products ready for distribution to customers. The scheme represents a practical solution to help vulnerable families establish themselves in new homes without the immediate financial burden of buying basic household items.
