Free asthma event for Oldham teachers in 2026
Oldham teachers and school staff are invited to a free morning session next February aimed at helping the thousands of Greater Manchester children who live with asthma. NHS clinicians will run the half-day training at the British Muslim Heritage Centre in Whalley Range, giving staff clear steps to cut the chance of pupils becoming unwell during the school day.
Alongside the training, the city region's first asthma guide for schools will be handed out. The booklet pulls together practical advice so teachers know what to watch for and how to react quickly if a child's breathing worsens.
Council health leads, children's services teams and school nurses are also welcome. After the 9.30am-12.30pm session, organisers have set aside time over lunch for staff to swap tips and build links with local health professionals.
Officials believe better classroom support could lift attendance figures, because pupils whose symptoms are managed are less likely to miss lessons or be sent home.
