Fly tipping 'totally unacceptable' in Clarksfield alleyway

Residents in Clarksfield are furious after discovering piles of dumped furniture and rubbish in an alleyway behind their homes, with mattresses, sofas, chairs, and bin bags of waste left strewn across the space. An anonymous local posted pictures on social media showing the mess, calling it 'a joke' and saying they've never seen it this bad in all their years living there.

The council installed locked gates to stop fly tipping, but when the Oldham Times visited, the gates were found unlocked and open. Residents have keys to access the alleyway, but the pictures show rubbish piled up beyond the gates, including wooden pallets and unidentifiable items in black bags.

Councillor Elaine Taylor, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, condemned the dumping as 'completely unacceptable' and illegal. She said everyone has a duty to dispose of waste properly and that the council won't tolerate people ignoring this responsibility.

The council is relaunching its 'Don't Trash Oldham' campaign with a new 'Clean Alleyway of the Month' initiative to highlight residents doing good work. They're visiting the area to remind people how to report fly tipping and urge anyone with information to come forward through their website.
