Police arrest man on drugs charges after welfare call near Daisy Nook

Emergency services descended on Park Bridge Road near Daisy Nook Country Park this afternoon after concerns were raised about a man's welfare. The incident, which unfolded just before 3pm, saw police, ambulances, and fire crews rush to the scene, with a police helicopter circling overhead as negotiations took place.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that after lengthy talks, the man was brought to safety but was then arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs. The fire service deployed specialist water rescue teams near the Medlock River, with three engines from Heywood, Chadderton, and Oldham attending the scene.

Fire crews established safe systems of work along the riverbank and waterside, with specialist rope and water rescue operatives in place. The operation continued until all risks were fully mitigated, with the scene eventually handed back to police.
