Spring COVID-19 vaccinations are now available across Greater Manchester for those most at risk, with the NHS offering extra protection to older residents and people with weakened immune systems. The vaccination programme runs from 13 April to 30 June 2026, targeting adults aged 75 and over, care home residents, and anyone aged six months and above with a compromised immune system.
Professor Manisha Kumar, Chief Clinical Officer for NHS Greater Manchester, stressed that COVID-19 remains dangerous for vulnerable groups even as warmer weather arrives. 'Protection from COVID-19 can fade over time, so for those who are at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell, it's important to top up your protection this spring,' she said.
Getting vaccinated is straightforward with multiple options available. Residents can book through the NHS app, call 119, or find their nearest walk-in centre via the NHS website. Local pharmacies and GP practices are also offering the vaccine, and care homes will arrange vaccinations for their residents.
The NHS is encouraging eligible people to come forward without waiting for an invitation. With COVID-19 spreading year-round, health officials want to ensure those most vulnerable have the best possible protection before the summer months. The vaccination campaign aims to prevent serious illness and hospitalisations among Oldham's older and more vulnerable residents.
