Oldham Children's Mental Health Week 2026 - Share Your Safe Spaces

Greater Manchester children can share their favourite safe spaces for mental health week, with submissions exhibited at The Horsfall gallery.

Greater Manchester's children and young people are being invited to share their stories about the places that make them feel safe and happy as part of Children's Mental Health Week 2026. The initiative, running from February 9-15, asks young residents to think about spaces where they can relax, spend time with friends, and feel listened to-whether that's a local park, youth club, or somewhere they enjoy their favourite hobby.

The project, organised by 42nd Street Mental Health Charity through their Horsfall art gallery and creative space, wants to hear from children across the region about what makes these places special and easy to use. They're also interested in finding out about spaces young people would like to access but currently can't, helping to identify gaps in local provision.

Young people can submit their contributions in various formats-writing, images, videos, or artwork-either individually or as groups. The deadline for submissions is March 20, with entries being shared online and exhibited during the annual 'The Future is Ours' festival. This year's theme, 'This Is My Place,' focuses on the importance of friendships and how schools and communities can create inclusive environments where children feel they belong.

The initiative builds on the national Children's Mental Health Week organised by Place2Be, but takes a distinctly local approach by asking Greater Manchester's young residents to map out their own mental health landscapes. By collecting these personal stories and experiences, organisers hope to create a picture of what truly supports young people's wellbeing in our communities.
