Oldham water outage Chadderton streets supply problem
Water went off for dozens of homes in Chadderton this morning after a burst pipe cut supplies to four streets. Residents on Rydal Avenue, Tavistock Drive, Cathedral Road and Minster Way woke to find their taps dry around 8.20am, with United Utilities confirming the fault was on Cathedral Road.
The outage lasted about an hour before engineers fixed the problem. United Utilities updated its website at 9.15am to say supplies were back on, adding that road repairs would continue over the next few days.
A company spokesperson said the team was carrying out emergency repairs and apologised for the inconvenience. For many households, the disruption meant no morning showers, no tea or coffee, and potential issues for those with medical needs requiring water.
While the fix was quick, the incident highlights how vulnerable local water supplies can be to sudden faults. United Utilities says it will fill in the hole and remove barriers as soon as possible to restore normal traffic flow on Cathedral Road.
