£20m Chadderton regeneration approved by government
Chadderton is set for a major transformation after the government approved £20 million for the Pride in Place regeneration project. The funding marks the beginning of a decade-long renewal plan that puts local residents in the driving seat, with the first four years focusing on business support, safety improvements, and restoring historic buildings like Foxdenton Hall.
The Chadderton Neighbourhood Board, made up of residents, business owners, councillors, and community leaders, has been working since last year to shape the plan based on what locals actually want. Through workshops, surveys, and community meetings, they've identified priorities including safer streets, better youth provision, and more inclusive community spaces.
The initial phase will see new CCTV cameras installed across Chadderton, improvements to public spaces and crossings, and grant schemes to support local businesses and community organisations. Foxdenton Hall, the historic 17th-century building, will be restored as a community asset. There's also a strong focus on youth provision and projects that celebrate local pride.
This isn't just about buildings and infrastructure-it's about building social trust and creating a town where everyone feels they belong. The Board, chaired by Laura Windsor-Welsh from Action Together, is committed to ongoing community engagement and transparency. They want to hear from as many people as possible through email at [email protected] or by attending local meetings.
The investment is part of a wider £40 million boost for Oldham, with Alt also receiving £20 million under the same strategy. Council Leader Arooj Shah described it as 'a huge milestone for the town' and part of building a more confident Oldham where outside investment is rising and opportunities are growing for local people.
