Careers fair in Oldham helps social housing residents find work

Social housing residents can explore housing sector careers at March 12 fair in Oldham town centre.

A careers fair aimed at helping social housing residents find work in the housing sector is coming to Oldham next week. The event, called Careers in Social Housing, will take place on Thursday, March 12 at First Choice Homes Oldham's head office on Union Street.

The fair has been organised by First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) in partnership with three other housing providers-Jigsaw, Great Places, and ForHousing-all of which own properties in the Oldham area. Mark Harrison, FCHO's employment and skills manager, said they're encouraging social housing tenants to consider careers with any of the four housing associations.

Harrison explained that there's no issue with tenants working for their own landlord or any other housing provider. The event will feature stalls where people can learn about different opportunities, plus videos from current FCHO staff explaining their roles and the various career paths available in housing.

This initiative follows a recent commitment from Greater Manchester Housing Providers to recruit 20 per cent of their workforce from social housing tenants by 2034. The organisers hope as many social housing customers as possible from across Oldham will attend to explore the career opportunities on offer.
