Best toastie in Oldham at Uppermill riverside cafe
A new riverside cafe in Uppermill has opened to rave reviews, with one food critic declaring its toastie the best they've ever tasted. Our Place, which took over the former Bloc site on High Street in January, is already making waves with its sourdough toasties and homemade accompaniments.
The reviewer visited on a Friday afternoon without booking and was immediately put at ease by the welcoming staff. Despite dining alone-something they admitted feeling 'nerve-racking'-the two women working that day made them feel right at home with big smiles and friendly service.
Their toastie experience was transformative. 'Gone are the days of the half-soggy ones coming out of my toastie maker at home,' they wrote. The deli meat, cheese and pesto toastie featured salami, ventricina, prosciutto crudo, melted cheddar, and a standout homemade tomato relish that the reviewer wished they could have taken home in a tub.
Paired with a caramel oat milk latte made with homemade syrup, the meal cost £20 including a takeaway lemon drizzle cake. The cafe's stylish decor and bright atmosphere, combined with views overlooking the River Tame, created what the reviewer called a 'lovely' dining experience that's already worth the trip to Uppermill.
