1,700 homes plan Oldham consultation tram stop

Oldham Council has launched a fresh consultation on plans for 1,700 new homes across Beal Valley and Broadbent Moss, including proposals for a new tram stop. The consultation, which began last month and runs until noon on March 30, has already sparked opposition from residents worried about increased traffic and roads becoming 'through roads' for new development.

The council's Draft Beal Valley and Broadbent Moss Masterplan and Spatial Design Code Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out detailed plans for two sites allocated in the Places for Everyone Plan. The document includes a masterplan, design code, and infrastructure phasing strategy, but many residents say they're concerned about how traffic would be managed once the estates are built.

Residents can view the plans online at bigoldhamconvo.oldham.gov.uk or on the council's website, with hard copies available at local libraries and the council's customer service centre in Spindles Shopping Centre. The council prefers online submissions but people can also email [email protected] or send comments by post to Strategic Planning and Information.

The consultation comes as Oldham continues to grapple with housing pressures and infrastructure needs. With the deadline approaching, residents have one final chance to share their views before the council makes decisions on the future of these greenfield sites that could reshape parts of the borough for decades to come.
