Young people from Chadderton have made a new film about their town, as the next phase of community engagement begins for Chadderton's £20 million Pride in Place programme.

The film, called Our Pride, Our Place, was produced through the Youth Voice programme run by Fullcircle nw CIC, a Chadderton-based community organisation that works with local people to create opportunities, strengthen communities and support residents to have a voice on the issues that matter to them. Young people were involved in developing and making the film, telling Chadderton's story through their own eyes.

Chadderton was selected by Government to receive up to £20 million of investment over the next decade, with local people helping to shape how that funding is used. The programme will support projects linked to public spaces, youth opportunities, heritage and culture, community safety and local business growth. A key principle is that decisions should be shaped by the people who live, work and spend time in Chadderton.

The Chadderton Neighbourhood Board now wants to build on the conversations started by the film by hearing from residents of all ages about what they would like to see happen next and how the investment can support the town's ambitions.

Rosie, aged 12, who helped create the film through Fullcircle's Youth Voice programme, said: "It was nice to hear other people's views on the area and see Chadderton from other people's perspectives and hear their stories. I hope to do more projects like this through the Youth Voice group."

Neil Consterdine, Director of Communities at Oldham Council, said: "It's fantastic that Chadderton has been chosen for this £20 million investment. It's a huge milestone for the town, and what makes this especially exciting is that it's about putting local people right at the heart of shaping Chadderton's future.

"This film is a great example of what makes Chadderton so special, and I'd encourage everyone to get involved and share their ideas. Together, we can make this a really positive and inspiring chapter for the town."

Rebecca Drake, Director of Fullcircle nw CIC and a member of the Chadderton Neighbourhood Board, said: "This project was about giving young people the chance to tell Chadderton's story in their own way. Too often young people are talked about rather than listened to.

"As a member of the Chadderton Neighbourhood Board, I hope this film is just the start of a much bigger conversation. Pride in Place is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our town and we want residents, businesses and community groups to help shape what comes next.

"We hope the film encourages people to reflect on what they love about Chadderton, share their ideas for the future and get involved in the conversation."

The Chadderton Neighbourhood Board will continue seeking the views of Chadderton residents, who are being encouraged to visit the website and join the mailing list to have their say.
