A 20-year-old woman from Hyde has been charged with aggravated arson in connection with the devastating moorland fire at Dove Stone Reservoir in Greenfield, a popular beauty spot for Oldham residents and visitors.

Shania Care-Slede, of Market Street in Hyde, has also been charged with being reckless as to whether life was endangered and dangerous driving. She has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, July 14.

The fire at Dove Stone, which lies within the Saddleworth Moor area close to Oldham, continues to be tackled by emergency services, including an RSPB Fire Ranger, as efforts to control the blaze persist.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the investigation remains active, with detectives reviewing a significant amount of video footage shared by the public. They are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry and are particularly keen to identify any other individuals who may have been involved in the incident.

Detective Inspector Andrew Day said: "While we have secured charges against one individual, our investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are carefully reviewing all available evidence to identify anyone else who may have been involved in criminality linked to this incident. We're committed to pursuing all those responsible, and anyone identified as having committed a criminal offence can expect to be robustly dealt with."

The public has been urged to submit any footage or information via the Dovestones Fire Evidence Submission Portal, but to avoid speculation on social media due to the active criminal proceedings.

In related developments, two other people have been arrested in connection with the blaze. A 19-year-old woman has been bailed pending further enquiries, while another individual remains in custody. These arrests form part of a broader effort to address the cause of the fire, which has caused significant damage to local moorland.

Firefighters have also had to respond to reports of barbecues being lit at Dove Stone Reservoir, despite clear warnings from the Peak District National Park that barbecues or any kind of fire are not permitted.
