Greater Manchester Police have warned that a wanted man who escaped custody in Manchester is a "danger to females", with Oldham residents urged to be vigilant as an extensive search continues. Marwan Jumaa, a 20-year-old Sudanese national, absconded after being transferred from a secure hospital facility to North Manchester Hospital for medical treatment.

Jumaa was serving an indefinite sentence in a secure hospital after being convicted of two robberies. The offences left two women and police officers with serious injuries. Detective Superintendent Amber Waywell from GMP said the warning was issued because the crimes he was sentenced for were against females.

Police have deployed specialist resources, including the Force Critical Wanted Unit (FCWU). They are working with partner agencies to locate him. According to GMP, there is no information suggesting any intended targets or plans for imminent harm, but Jumaa is considered a substantial risk.

Det Supt Waywell said: "We don’t want anybody to approach Jumaa in any way, shape or form. If they see him or think they have seen him, then we will go out. We would rather have ten false calls to get the one right one."

She added: "We are undertaking extensive work in our search for Jumaa, utilising all necessary resources and officers in order to return him to lawful custody. I fully understand that this is concerning news, but I want the public to know that we are working around-the-clock to find him."

Oldham residents are advised to stay alert as the search spans across Greater Manchester. Local neighbourhood officers are supporting the operation. Police have emphasized that Jumaa may require medical assistance and should not be approached.

Detective Superintendent Waywell also said: "No matter how small you think the information is, it could greatly assist with our investigation."

Anyone who believes they have seen Jumaa should call 999 immediately, quoting log 3544 of 14 July 2026. Police are continuing their urgent manhunt to return him to custody.
