Uppermill will not have Christmas lights as Saddleworth Round Table cites lack of business support
Uppermill will have no Christmas lights after Saddleworth Round Table cited a lack of business support and launched a £500 competition.
Uppermill will not have its usual Christmas lights this year, Saddleworth Round Table has confirmed, as first reported by the Saddleworth Independent. The group supplies the fairy lights and the volunteers who install them, but chairman Ryan Smith said attempts to get village businesses involved had not been taken up. Only three businesses came to a meeting this year about the lights and the Santa Dash.
The Round Table has instead launched a competition for shop displays, with £500 for the best-lit business to give to a charity of its choice. Mr Smith said: "We simply don't have the support to do this each year," but added the group would work with anyone wanting to form a lights team.
