Hot Duck and the Hei Hei Eaterie on High Street in Uppermill has started work to make the building safe and clear damage after a serious fire on Sunday, September 6.

Emergency services were called to the centre of the village, and road closures remained in place into the evening while firefighters tackled the blaze, and three people were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

In an update, the owners said the photos show "just some of the substantial damage caused by the fire" and added: "There's no doubt that we have a huge amount of work ahead of us."

They thanked the fire crew for "their response and incredible efforts on the day" and said friends in the building trade acted immediately. They said: "Within days, work has already begun to make the building safe, clear the damage and begin the recovery."

The team said there is still a long way to go, but added: "the comeback has begun."
