A knife attack in Timperley has left two people with injuries, and a man has been arrested after a police cordon was put in place outside an Iceland supermarket on Stockport Road.

Greater Manchester Police officers were called to the busy road at around 12:47pm on Monday (8 June). A suspect was quickly detained and arrested on suspicion of assault at 12:54pm, just minutes after the initial report.

The two victims were treated for minor injuries, a GMP spokesperson confirmed. According to the Manchester Evening News, the victims are understood to have suffered slash wounds in the attack.

A cordon was set up outside the Iceland store, closing part of the pavement while evidence was gathered. Stockport Road is a main route through Timperley, and the incident is likely to have caused disruption during the lunchtime period.

A full statement from GMP said: “Officers were called to reports of an assault on Stockport Road, Timperley at around 12:47pm this afternoon (Monday 8 June). A man was quickly detained and arrested at 12:54pm on suspicion of assault. Two victims sustained minor injuries. Enquiries remain ongoing.”

Timperley is generally a quiet suburban area, and this kind of violence is rare. Local residents expressed shock as police tape surrounded the entrance to the supermarket for several hours.

The arrested man remains in custody for questioning. It is not yet clear what possible charges he may face, and the investigation is at an early stage.

While this incident occurred in Trafford, it serves as a reminder of the wider knife crime picture across Greater Manchester. GMP has been running targeted operations to tackle the issue, including in Oldham, where community engagement and weapon sweeps have taken place in recent months.
