Saddleworth Round Table has donated £1,000 towards plans for an "Art Bus" at the 2027 Saddleworth Art Trail, a move designed to make the popular event more accessible for visitors with mobility issues. The donation was announced on April 15 during a ceremony at Saddleworth Museum and Gallery.

Community Support Officer Dean Ward and Ryan Smith, who has recently taken over as Chair of the Round Table, presented the cheque to Art Trail committee members Linda Edwards and Glynis Thorpe. Smith is leading the group for the 2026/27 term, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1958.

The funding will be used to develop transport links between the various villages and venues that take part in the Art Trail, including Uppermill, Delph, Diggle and Dobcross. Organisers hope that by 2027, an Art Bus will be in operation, providing a vital service for those who find it difficult to get around on foot or by car.

This year's Saddleworth Art Trail is scheduled for the May Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 2 to Monday 4 May. Over 50 artists will be participating, displaying their work in a range of venues such as studios, cafés, bars, restaurants and local businesses across the Saddleworth area. The event is self-guided, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

Brochures for the 2025 Art Trail are now available at key locations, including Uppermill Post Office and Saddleworth Museum, providing maps and information about the artists and venues involved.

The donation is part of a record fundraising year for Saddleworth Round Table, which has been supporting local charities and community groups for decades. The group's recent efforts have seen them back a range of initiatives, underlining the strong community spirit in the area.
