Saddleworth Parish Council calls for Annie Kenney blue plaque move to Woodend Street
Saddleworth Parish Council wants Annie Kenney's blue plaque moved from Leesbrook Mill to Woodend Mill in Springhead, where research shows she worked.
Saddleworth Parish Council wants a blue plaque honouring the suffragette Annie Kenney moved to the mill where research indicates she began work, the Saddleworth Independent reports. The plaque currently sits at Leesbrook Mill in Lees, but councillors say it should be at Woodend Mill on Woodend Street in Springhead, where she started on her 10th birthday in 1889.
The council also wants wider recognition for the rest of the Kenney family, several of whom were involved in the suffrage movement. Council chair Cllr Barbara Beeley said: "I have a real passion for Annie Kenney."
