Saddleworth Concerts Society announces classical and jazz season at Millgate Arts Centre in Delph
Saddleworth Concerts Society's new season brings four nights of classical and jazz to Millgate Arts Centre in Delph from October 23.

Saddleworth Concerts Society has announced a new season of four live concerts at Millgate Arts Centre in Delph, mixing classical chamber music with jazz.
The season opens on Friday, October 23 with the Osian Ensemble, a string quartet founded in 2023 by Jacob Wright and Kirin Howat, both students at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
The quartet will perform works by Joseph Haydn and Bedřich Smetana alongside pieces by 20th-century composers Ernest Moeran and Erwin Schulhoff. The programme includes Haydn's String Quartet Op. 76 No. 2, known as Fifths, Smetana's String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, From My Life, Moeran's String Quartet No. 1 in A minor and Schulhoff's Five Pieces for String Quartet.
Tickets cost £20, with children and students admitted for £5. They can be booked online or bought on the night.
The Jim Muirhead Jazz Quartet returns on Friday, November 27, after a successful debut with the society two years ago. Jim will be joined by three North West jazz musicians, including pianist, composer and educator Richard Wetherall on keyboards. The quartet will play classic jazz standards from the early and mid-20th century, with music by George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
The Solasta Saxophone Quartet performs on Wednesday, February 17, 2027. Formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in September 2022, the ensemble takes its name from the Scottish Gaelic word for "luminous" or "shining", reflecting its collective sound and the Scottish heritage of its baritone player. The concert begins at 7.30pm.
The final concert on Wednesday, March 17, 2027 features the Agogo String Quartet, a Manchester-based ensemble whose musicians studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. It begins at 7.30pm.
Season tickets covering all four concerts cost £64. Enquiries can be made by emailing [email protected].
