Royton Library on Rochdale Road has closed temporarily while essential building works are assessed and carried out.

The closure allows investigations and repairs to the flooring inside the building. Oldham Council said the work is needed to keep the library a welcoming, safe and accessible space for residents.

The council will provide regular updates on progress and announce a reopening date as soon as more information is available.

During the closure, customers can use Fitton Hill Library and Neighbourhood Centre, or Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre.

Digital services, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and online reference resources, remain available at hla.oldham.gov.uk/libraries.

Subnum Hariff-Khan, Head of Heritage, Libraries and Arts for Oldham Council, said Royton Library is a valued community resource that many residents rely on, and the closure may cause some inconvenience.

"We're exploring alternative local options to support residents and will update as soon as possible," she said.

She said the works are essential to ensure the building remains safe, welcoming and fit for the future, and that customers can still use other libraries across the borough and digital resources online.

Hariff-Khan thanked residents for their patience and understanding, and said the council looks forward to welcoming everyone back once the improvements are completed.
