Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation after a teenage girl reported being sexually assaulted in Victoria Park, Stretford. Officers cordoned off parts of the park on Tuesday evening as forensic teams examined the scene and detectives appealed for witnesses.

Police were called to the park at around 6pm on 21 July 2026 following reports of the assault. A walkway and a wooded area were sealed off, and photographs from the scene showed a significant police presence. The cordons remained in place for several hours as inquiries continued.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the alleged victim is being supported by specialist officers. "No arrests have been made at this time. However, the victim is being supported and detectives are following up multiple lines of enquiry to piece together the full circumstances," the force said.

Victoria Park, which is maintained by the Friends of Victoria Park group, is a much-loved green space in Stretford. The group was founded in 2003 with the aim of restoring and enhancing the park. The investigation caused disruption for regular visitors, with the park likely to reopen fully once forensic work is complete.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity around the time of the incident to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour or who has dashcam or mobile phone footage that could help the investigation.

While the incident took place in Stretford, the message from police is relevant for communities across Greater Manchester, including in Oldham. Residents are advised to remain vigilant when visiting parks and open spaces, especially during the summer when more people are out and about.

Greater Manchester Police has also stressed the support available for victims of sexual assault. In Oldham, victims can access these services and are encouraged to report incidents to the police or seek independent support.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and the investigation remains ongoing.
