A writer from Oldham is releasing a collection of his work that brings together more than 30 years of memories, writing and life experiences.

Paul J. Burgess's book, I Am the Detail: A Life in Writings, will be released on November 6. It gathers more than three decades of writing and moments from his life.

It is not a traditional autobiography. Instead, Burgess draws on old Facebook posts, articles, poetry, photographs, journal entries, letters and notes, letting his past self tell the story.

"Over the last few months, I've been going backwards through my own life," he said. "I realised that I've apparently been doing the same thing for decades: noticing, writing, marking moments, leaving myself little signs in the road."

The release date has personal significance too. It marks exactly 10 years since Burgess was the victim of an armed robbery.

The book covers family, relationships, creativity, grief, activism, veganism, mental health, work and performance.

Burgess is known as one half of Those Vegan Guys, alongside his husband Jason Bromley. The pair share practical vegan food and lifestyle content online.

His creative career spans more than three decades and includes acting, directing, writing, drag performance, television and radio presenting. He spent 19 years running community arts organisation Performance Plaza and helped found Pink Triangle Theatre.

I Am the Detail joins Written, Then Spoken and Down-To-Earth VEGAN, both of which are already available to download for free.

Burgess said: "It's probably the most personal and revealing thing I've ever shared. And, because I want people to actually read it, it'll be completely free."
