Vandals caused "extensive damage" at Oasis Academy Clarksfield in Oldham, with witnesses describing a group of teenagers forcing their way onto the grounds.

Police were called to the school on Grasmere Road on Friday evening (July 24) after the incident was reported. Greater Manchester Police say investigations are ongoing.

According to the school, the culprits cut through a perimeter fence and broke a gate lock. Once inside, they shattered playground equipment, damaged sheds and toys, broke basketball hoops, and overturned planters. Offensive and abusive language was also chalked around the playground.

The school estimates the repair costs could be hundreds if not thousands of pounds. Relevant CCTV footage has been provided to the police.

In a statement, headteacher Mrs Howard said: "We are saddened to share that our school has been targeted by vandals this evening."

She added: "We would ask all parents and carers to have a conversation with their teenagers. If your child was not at home this evening, do you know where they were and who they were with?"

Mrs Howard thanked neighbours who alerted the school and friends at Bilal Mosque for their support. She said: "Our school is a place for children to learn, play and thrive, and the cost of repairing this needless damage ultimately affects the whole school community."
