Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was called by Greater Manchester Police shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, October 20, over concerns for a walker's welfare close to Ashway Memorial Cross above Dove Stone Reservoir, Saddleworth Independent reported. It was the team's second call to the reservoir within seven days.

Rescuers used SARLOC phone-location technology to find the walker. A team medic gave extra warm clothing before the person was escorted on foot to a control vehicle. Twelve volunteers took part in the operation, which lasted about two hours.
