Oldham Council and Oldham College are inviting local employers to join the ‘100 Apprentices in 100 Days’ challenge, a borough-wide campaign to create apprenticeship opportunities for young people. Launching on May 21, the initiative supports the national Youth Guarantee, which aims to ensure every young person can access employment, education, or training.

The campaign will showcase the benefits of hiring apprentices, including financial incentives for employers and the chance to explore the new Foundation Apprenticeship route. Businesses of all sizes and sectors are encouraged to take part to help Oldham reach its target of 100 apprenticeships in 100 days.

Councillor Mohon Ali, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, highlighted the need for local investment in young talent. “Oldham’s economy is shifting, with new demands for skills like AI and digital technology. By creating apprenticeships, businesses can grow and develop the workforce they need. We want 100 opportunities ready for exam results day, so young people can move from education into fulfilling careers,” he said.

Simon Jordan, Principal and CEO of Oldham College, emphasized the community impact. “Oldham is home to many talented young people who can add value to our economy. With current government incentives and recent reforms, it has never been easier for businesses to invest in apprenticeships. This initiative is about social mobility and building resilience. If every local employer creates just one apprenticeship, we can transform Oldham’s future,” he explained.

Oldham Council and Oldham College will provide comprehensive support to employers at every stage, from setting up apprenticeships to accessing financial support. This ensures that 100 young people in Oldham receive the opportunities they deserve.
