Oldham's Halloween Half Marathon returns on Sunday 25 October, inviting runners to tackle what many consider the toughest 13.1-mile course in the country.

The route starts on St Mary's Way in Oldham town centre before climbing to Grains Bar, which at 340 metres above sea level is the highest point on the course. From there, runners pass through Delph, Dobcross and Uppermill, with views across the Saddleworth countryside, before heading through Grasscroft and Lydgate. The return leg takes in Lees and Glodwick before finishing back in the town centre.

The event is open to anyone aged 17 and over. Entry costs £35, or £33 for local running groups and clubs. Sign up through Oldham Community Leisure's website.

Stuart Lockwood, Chief Executive of Oldham Community Leisure, said the course remains "as challenging as ever, even for the most seasoned runners" and called it "an unforgettable experience for everyone who takes part".

Rebecca Fletcher, Director of Public Health at Oldham Council, said the half marathon "lets us showcase our stunning landscape and the wider borough to visitors" while bringing the local community together.

The race first took place in 2012 and regularly attracts hundreds of runners from local charities, businesses and running clubs, with residents lining the streets to cheer them on.
