Magistrates have granted Oldham Council a Closure Order for a house following reports of persistent anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.

The order, granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will be in place for three months. It makes it an offence for anyone, including the occupants, to enter the property while it is in force and restricts access only to emergency services.

Reports linked to the address included disorderly and intimidating behaviour and suspected drug-related activity. The order aims to provide respite to residents and protect them from disruption.

The court can extend the order for a further three months if necessary, and longer-term measures may also be considered to prevent future problems.

Residents played a vital role in securing the order by providing information and evidence about the issues affecting the area.

A council spokesperson said: "This Closure Order demonstrates our commitment to protecting residents and tackling behaviour that negatively affects our communities. The issues linked to this property caused significant distress and disruption for people living nearby over a prolonged period."

The spokesperson said securing the order involved painstaking work by the Community Safety Service and local residents, and thanked them for their support, patience and cooperation.
