Oldham College photography student Lacey gains industry experience with Rio Ferdinand Foundation
Oldham College photography student Lacey gained hands-on Lyle & Scott and Cheeky Sport Media campaign experience in Salford via the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.

A photography student at Oldham College has spent the summer working on a clothing campaign after joining a programme run on campus with the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.
Lacey, who is studying for a Level 3 Photography qualification, signed up to the multimedia programme alongside other students. It offered practical sessions across photography, filmmaking, animation, music production, DJing and podcasting, and also carried a Level 1 qualification in Developing Self-Confidence and Self-Awareness.
Staff noticed her enthusiasm for developing her creative skills and invited her to take on a further opportunity while still on her course. She became part of a team of young creatives producing content for clothing brand Lyle & Scott and sports media platform Cheeky Sport Media over the summer, gaining hands-on work experience.
Lacey helped plan and capture material for the campaign, photographing and filming young participants, directing them on set and putting ideas to the wider creative team. She also took part in interviews on camera and spoke with the Lyle & Scott design team about her ideas for future clothing.
She said: "What I most enjoyed was the video photography and learning how to use different equipment. I've loved learning about all of it, videoing with other people and seeing them have fun. I also loved working with the models, seeing the different poses."
Victoria Lowe, the Rio Ferdinand Foundation's head of opportunities for the North West, said Lacey had travelled independently to Salford to enter a new professional setting. She added: "Her confidence grew throughout the experience, and she wasn't afraid to share ideas, direct the young people during the shoot or speak on camera."
Her approach also impressed the Cheeky Sport Media team, which gave her a DJI Osmo camera and gimbal worth almost £500 so she can carry on developing her content creation skills.
Lacey said the experience had built her confidence, developed her skills and given her an insight into working in the creative industries. She hopes to become a journalist.
