Oldham College graphic design students redesign RAL logo
Oldham College graphic design students rebranded RAL's logo after pitching designs, gaining real-world client experience.

Graphic design students at Oldham College have redesigned the logo for a civil engineering company after pitching their ideas directly to it.
Level 3 Graphic Design learners worked with Rowan Ashworth Limited (RAL) earlier this year. Each learner produced a design proposal and presented it to the company, which then picked six students to take the work further: Year 1 students Holly, Megan and Usman, and Year 2 students Noah, Lauren and Luis.
The group refined the branding with RAL, and the finished logo now appears on the company's website, social media, workwear and materials used on construction sites.
Usman said: "I enjoyed developing my creativity on this project. It has given me real-world experience of working to a brief and meeting a client's expectations."
Zack Maher and Anthony Ashton, from RAL, praised the learners for working to a professional standard throughout the collaboration. They said: "The project has been a great success. Learners have shown an absolutely brilliant standard, which has really highlighted the quality of their work."
Lauren Driscoll, Programme Tutor for Art and Design, said the live client brief helped students develop communication, presentation and teamwork skills in a professional setting.
She said pitching ideas to a real company and contributing to a design used commercially had boosted their confidence and given them industry experience to support progression into higher education and creative careers.
