Oldham College event to outline apprenticeship funding and incentives for employers
Employers can access up to £8,000 and fully funded training to recruit young apprentices, Oldham College says before its Thursday 12th November event.

Employers could access up to £8,000 in support to recruit young apprentices, Oldham College has said, as changes to government funding make training cheaper.
Training for eligible apprentices aged 16 to 24 is now 100% government funded. The changes apply to non-levy employers. Larger employers that pay the Growth and Skills Levy may also benefit if they have used the money in their levy account.
Oldham College said a range of incentives are available, depending on the employer and apprentice. They include up to £2,000 for eligible non-levy employers that recruit a new apprentice aged 16 to 24 from October 2026.
A £1,000 payment is available for taking on a 16 to 18 year old apprentice. For those aged 19 to 24, it applies where the apprentice has spent time in care or has an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP). Up to £2,000 is offered for an eligible Foundation Apprentice.
The Youth Jobs Grant offers £3,000 to eligible employers who hire a person aged 18 to 24 after at least six months out of work and on Universal Credit. Some employers may be able to combine the payments, and may also qualify for Employer National Insurance relief for apprentices under the age of 25.
Apprenticeship funding can also help employers develop existing staff, as well as new recruits. Lisa Liddy, the college's assistant principal for apprenticeships and skills, said: "With fully funded training available for eligible younger apprentices, alongside new financial incentives, there is even more support available to help businesses develop the skills they need."
The college's apprenticeships team can explain which funding and incentives employers may qualify for and how to use them. Oldham College will host Oldham College Connect: Business meets education from 12 noon on Thursday 12th November at its Business Centre. Businesses can tour facilities, discuss workforce needs with college teams and learn about adult courses and staff training.
