Oldham Choral Society will perform two contrasting works at a concert in Royton next month, with Howard Goodall's Eternal Light and Giacomo Puccini's Messa di Gloria on the programme.

The concert takes place on Sunday, November 1 at St Paul's Church on Church Street, starting at 4pm.

Eternal Light is a modern Requiem that sets words from the Latin Mass alongside English poetry, offering a different view of a traditional form. Puccini's Messa di Gloria, written when the composer was just 18, is full of dramatic melodies pointing towards the operatic style he later became known for.

The society's musical director, David Cane, will conduct. The tenor soloist is Brian McNamee and the baritone soloist is Andrew Wickens. A string ensemble will accompany the choir, with Gary Hulme on organ and Duncan Robertson on piano.

Tickets cost £15. Concessions are priced at £5 for students and for people receiving Universal Credit or Pension Credit. Under-18s can attend for £1.

Tickets can be bought online at www.oldhamchoralsociety.org.uk, by calling the ticket secretary on 07768 167178, or on the door.
