Meanwhile, the Scouthead and Austerlands Community Group has breathed a sigh of relief after facing an uncertain future. The group, which had been struggling to find enough volunteers to keep going, was on the brink of closure ahead of its Tuesday meeting on 2 June. However, a good-natured local resident stepped forward to take on a key role, meaning the group can continue its valuable work bringing people together in the Saddleworth area. The new committee formed at the meeting will now oversee the group’s activities, and there is renewed optimism that the community association will thrive once again.

Residents of Scouthead and Austerlands are also being invited to roll up their sleeves and help keep the area clean and tidy at a special double event. On Wednesday 4 June, the community is welcome to join a litter pick starting at Dawson’s Field on Huddersfield Road. The event is designed not only to improve the appearance of local streets and green spaces but also to let people find out about other community projects.
