Mossley man Pete Keenan has completed a 1,200-mile walk from John O'Groats to Land's End after 82 days on the road, raising almost £5,000 for Parkinson's research.

Keenan, originally from Saddleworth, set off earlier this year for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. He finished on Wednesday, September 23, after walking the length of Britain alone while carrying his own equipment.

The walk was inspired by his family experience of Parkinson's, with his dad living with the condition and his former father-in-law having died from Parkinson's-related illnesses. Pete said he had started with an initial target of Fort William and had been unsure whether he would make it all the way.

He said the response had left him overwhelmed, with strangers offering encouragement, donations and shared experiences of Parkinson's. One village donated over £300, and he recalled being given a round of applause in a pub. His homecoming through Mossley on day 50 drew local support, with local Mossley businesses and friends backing him.

Jamie, who documented the 82 days online and spoke to Pete every day for 80 days, said his determination never wavered despite horrible weather and a few injuries. Pete's total is now approaching £5,000. He has previously completed charity walks for causes including Oldham Mountain Rescue, Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind and the Anthony Seddon Fund.
