The first phase of Tommyfield Park has opened on the former sports centre site in Oldham town centre, with the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Pam Byrne, cutting the ribbon on Friday, October 23. Saddleworth Independent reported the opening.

The 1.5 acre site offers open lawns, walking trails, seating areas and an amphitheatre-style terrace. A second phase, due for completion in 2027, will take the park to 5.7 acres.

Byrne said: "This is a proud moment for Oldham." The park forms part of the council's £450 million Creating a Better Place regeneration programme.
