Many people in Saddleworth are unaware that they will vote for the next Mayor of Greater Manchester on July 30, with several residents saying they have not received any campaign material from candidates.

Saddleworth was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire but became part of Greater Manchester in 1974 during a local government restructure, and it is now within the borough of Oldham.

Some locals feel that services have worsened since the change. Christine, who has lived in the area for 57 years, said: "When we were in the West Riding, then everything got done. The leaves were swept from the paths in the autumn. We had officers down here."

Other residents hold different views. Jenna Tett, who is Saddleworth born and bred, said it still feels part of Manchester, though her father is very Yorkshire, adding it might be a generational thing.

Roy Turner, who has lived in Uppermill for 15 years, said he will vote because he always does, but he has not seen any literature from the candidates. He thinks there is an unfair distribution of funding and that it is difficult to get things done locally.

For some, the recent fire at Dove Stone Reservoir remains a concern. Katie from Greenfield said access to a memorial tree for her mother-in-law is limited, adding it is alarming that the site cannot be made more secure.
