A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital this afternoon after being stabbed in the leg in Prestwich, with two people arrested at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a stabbing on Carrigart, a residential road off Bury New Road near St Marys Park, at around 2.23pm. Officers remain at the scene and a cordon is in place this evening.

The victim suffered what police described as a significant wound to his leg and was treated by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for further treatment. His condition has not been confirmed but the injury is said to have caused heavy bleeding.

A male and a female have been arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident. Police have not yet confirmed their ages or how they are believed to be involved.

Although the attack took place in Prestwich, several miles from Oldham town centre, the incident falls under the jurisdiction of GMP's Bury division, which neighbours Oldham's policing area.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called shortly after 2.20pm to reports of a stabbing on Carrigart in Prestwich. A man in his 30s sustained a stab wound to his leg and was taken to hospital. Two people have been arrested on suspicion of affray and inquiries are ongoing."

Local residents reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area throughout the afternoon, with officers taping off the scene and conducting door-to-door inquiries. The cordon remains in place as forensic teams examine the location.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that a single ambulance crew attended following a 999 call at 2.25pm. "The patient was assessed at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment," he said.

Police have not yet released a description of any weapons used or a motive for the attack. It is not believed that anyone else was injured during the incident, and no wider threat to the public has been indicated.
